Starting with spraying slurry, the slurry temperature is reduced to a certain value through a heat exchanger using water from a cooling tower. The heat required to cool the flue gas is taken away by the slurry instead, thereby reducing the slurry spraying temperature and thus the exhaust gas temperature. After establishing a new water balance in the tower, the original desulfurization system will not be affected.
