  • 1.Basic principle of condenser:

    The working principle of condenser is to cool and condense steam into liquid using a cooling medium (such as cooling water or air). Usually, steam releases its latent heat (i.e. the heat required for gas to be converted into liquid) in the condenser, and this heat is taken away by the cooling system.

    2.Types of condensers:

    2.1. Water-cooled condenser: The most common type of condenser, using water as the cooling medium. Water condensers are common in large power plants and some industrial cooling systems. Cooling water flows through pipes, absorbs the heat of steam, and takes it away.

    2.1.1.Direct water condenser: Water flows through a single path of the equipment to directly cool the steam.

    2.1.2Indirect water condenser: Use cooling water to exchange heat indirectly with steam through a heat exchanger to reduce the impact of water quality on the equipment.

    2.2. Air condenser: uses air as the cooling medium, usually used in some small equipment or places where a large amount of cooling water cannot be provided. The air flows through the fan to exchange heat with the steam and take away the heat. This method is usually less efficient, but it is suitable for areas with limited environmental water resources.

    2.3. Hybrid condenser: It combines the dual methods of water cooling and air cooling. Water cooling can be used at high loads, and it can be converted to air cooling when the water temperature is high or water resources are tight.

    3.Maintenance of condenser:

    3.1.Cleaning and anti-corrosion: During long-term use, the pipes and heat exchange surfaces of the condenser may accumulate dirt, algae or sediment, affecting the heat exchange effect. Therefore, regular cleaning and inspection of the condenser is necessary.

    3.2.Prevent scale: Water condensers need to prevent mineral deposition in the water, which leads to scale formation and affects the heat exchange efficiency. Using softened water, chemicals or cleaning methods are common solutions.

    4.Application examples of condensers:

    4.1.Thermal power plants: In thermal power plants, the steam discharged from the steam turbine is cooled by the condenser and turned into water, which is then sent back to the boiler for reheating to form a circulation system.

    4.2.Heat pump system: In a heat pump heating system, the condenser releases the heat absorbed from the low-temperature environment to the water or air that needs to be heated.

    4.3.Industrial waste heat recovery: The waste heat steam generated in the industrial process can be recovered through the condenser to improve overall energy efficiency.
